Thursday, Cape Girardeau radio host Faune Riggin was kind enough to have me as a guest on her show (link), and the Southeast Missourian newspaper (my employer!) ran an editorial partly about me and my book (link). I was honored and touched and a little bit overwhelmed, which is a lovely combination and I highly recommend it.
I am delighted that my book is getting so much attention. I really did not expect this, y’all. I’ve been a published poet for going on 20 years, sparsely, and I’ve been reporting the news for a couple of years now, but I didn’t really think people would be interested in a book of poems from a news writer.
I’ll admit when I’m wrong, OK. I was wrong. But pleasantly surprised.
I’m gearing up for an appearance on the Sanesplaining podcast, hosted by Dan and Margaret Crocker, this weekend, and I have a couple-few more promotional irons in the fire. I’m excited and honored and I keep saying “honored” but for the life of me, I can’t think of another word that encompasses what’s going on here. Every time someone asks to buy a copy or tells me they liked a poem (so far the consensus has been on the Bugs Bunny in drag poem), it just makes my little author heart well up with light.
